Swiss food and beverage giant Nestle recently inaugurated a new center for research and development (R&D) in Beijing, China to capitalize on emerging trends in Asian food and beverage markets, the company announced Monday.
Located near Nestle China’s headquarters in the country’s capital, the site features laboratories for rapid prototyping and packaging, a consumer insight area, and houses the Nestle Food Safety Institute in China. About 40 R&D specialists will work at the facility on several product categories including sensory sciences, food technology, and nutrition.
“China is one of the fastest-changing food and beverage markets in the world, and a significant growth driver for Nestle,” the firm’s chief executive officer Mark Schneider, said in a press release. “We are strengthening our local R&D capabilities so that our teams can work faster and more efficiently to turn great ideas into the latest must-have products for consumers in China.”
The company also announced the opening of a new System Technology hub in Shenzhen, China located near beverage machine and system manufacturers that will enable Nestle to develop new beverage systems and components with customers.
“We are constantly looking for opportunities to increase the speed of our trend-based innovation. The proximity of our R&D team to the Nestle China headquarters and of the System Technology Hub to our suppliers and manufacturers will enable a strong collaboration that will help Nestle push the boundaries by bringing breakthrough innovations to the market faster,” said Nestle Chief Technology Officer Stefan Palzer in a statement.
China is Nestle’s second biggest market globally.
