Dust Collector Fire Causes $2K in Damage at WA Facility

A blaze in a dust collector at the FruitSmart fruit processing plant in Grandview, WA early Sunday morning caused an estimated $2000 in damages, according to a report by the Yakima Herald-Republic

Grandview City Fire Department Capt. Del Whitmore told the newspaper that fire crews responded to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. and put out the fire in the dust collection system within 30 minutes. The damage was limited to the dust collector.

FruitSmart is a processor and supplier of fruit ingredients like fruit powders, dices, nuggets, and granules, fruit seed oils, and fruit essences. The company’s 128,000-sq-ft plant in Grandview has offices, production space, dry, refrigerated, and freezer storage areas, according to its website.
