Dutch animal feed firm Royal De Heus recently entered into an agreement to purchase the Evialis Galicia compound feed plant from American agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). The facility has a capacity of over 50,000 tn/yr of compound feed.
The acquisition is part of Royal De Heus’ strategy to expand its presence in the Iberian animal feed market, the company said in a recent release announcing the transaction. Established in 1974 by a group of pig farmers, Evialis Galicia currently provides a range of compound feeds for several animal categories. The company focuses on feed for dairy cattle and rabbits.
“We are pleased with this acquisition. The take-over underlies our ambition to further reinforce our market position in Spain,” said Jean François Honoré, general manager of De Heus Iberia, in a statement. “This new plan enables us to improve our logistic service for customers in this region.”
De Heus said Evialis Galicia’s focus on the open feed market is complimentary to its activities. Both firms sell feed through a dealer network and directly to farmers.
Once the transaction is completed, the Dutch firm said it plans to invest in optimizing and improving Evialis Galicia’s production operations.
