American food company Beyond Meat recently expanded a partnership with Dutch protein supply chain firm Zandbergen World’s Finest Meats to produce the firm’s plant-based protein products at a new manufacturing facility in Europe that will serve customers across the continent, the companies announced in release Tuesday.

“The consumer response in Europe has been very positive and we look forward to being able to better serve those customers with locally produced products,” Beyond Meat Executive Chairman Seth Goldman said in a statement. “We are pleased to have strong strategic partners in Europe like Zandbergen to help us grow our global footprint.”

Construction on Beyond Meat’s new facility in Zandbergen in Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands is slated to reach completion by the first quarter of 2020. The company said the new partnership and facility will enable the firm to get Beyond Meat products into European markets more quickly.

“As the demand for plant-based products continues to expand in Europe, we are thrilled to be partnering with Beyond Meat to produce their innovative products outside the U.S.,” Zandbergen World’s Finest Meats Chief Commercial Officer Adriaan Figee said in the release.

Beyond Meat tapped Zandbergen World’s Finest Meats to distribute its products in Europe in 2018. Since then, several major food retailers in Europe, including Tesco in the UK and Delhaize in Belgium, have started to carry the products.

The American firm said it plans to expand the availability of its products to foodservice customers in Europe, including burger chain restaurants.
