Malvern's Lewis Wins ACS Anachem Award

Malvern Instruments’ technical director, Dr. E. Neil Lewis will be presented with the prestigious Anachem Award by the Detroit Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) at this year’s Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) conference, October 18-22, 2009, in Louisville, KY.

Established in 1953, the Anachem Award is presented annually to an outstanding analytical chemist based on activities in teaching, research, administration, or other activity that has advanced the art and science of the field.

“We are very proud that the ACS has recognized Neil Lewis’s achievements as an analytical chemist,” said Paul Walker, managing director of Malvern Instruments. “In the 56 years since its inception only two other people from instrument companies have received the Anachem Award. Innovation in instrument development and analytical techniques is essential to the advancement of science and Neil’s contributions to the field of chemical imaging have indeed been outstanding.”

Lewis, who was appointed to the Board of Malvern Instruments Ltd. in 2008, becoming technical director for the company, is recognized as one of the founders of modern near infrared chemical imaging (NIRCI) systems. Having co-authored Solid State Approach to Chemical Imaging in 1992, he has been at the forefront of system development ever since. His achievements in the field are exemplified by the outstanding performance and increasing application of Malvern’s SyNIRgi system.
