Leading Rheologist Joins Malvern Team

Malvern Instruments has announced that Samiul Amin has joins the company from Unilever (Port Sunlight), where he provided the technical lead on the application of rheology in product development.

As a member of Malvern’s Novel Measurement Group, Amin will work in two main areas: the development of new rheological solutions that exploit the high performance of the new Kinexus platform and research into next generation rheology techniques. His role will include collaborative projects with industrial research and development groups, and leading academics.

A member of the Society of Rheology and the British Society of Rheology, Amin currently serves on the Royal Society of Chemistry/Society of Chemical Industry joint colloid committee. He is a chemical engineer by background with postdoctoral research experience at the highly regarded University of Fribourg (Switzerland).

Steve Carrington, rheology product manager at Malvern said, “This is an exciting time for rheology at Malvern. In Kinexus we have a groundbreaking instrument that will meet the needs of the rheology community now and into the future. Working alongside our team of material characterization experts, Samiul will use Kinexus to develop intelligent rheological solutions for applications across a broad range of industries. He will also help drive a strong forward-looking program, ensuring that Malvern rheology continues to provide the best measurement solutions for real applications.”

Launched in September 2008, Kinexus is a revolutionary new rotational rheometer platform that has been designed entirely from the ground up. It enables users to spend less time learning how to interact with their system and more time investigating ways to characterize and enhance a material’s performance.

Kinexus incorporates technological innovations in the most critical areas of rheometer design, from sample preparation and loading, through measurement set-up and operation, to data analysis and reporting. Adaptive intelligence allows Kinexus to actively guide users at every stage.
