PBS Texas to Host Women in Processing Panel

A panel of women in engineering will explore industry trends, challenges, and solutions related to job roles, leadership expectations, and the balance between assertiveness and diplomacy. The Women in Processing panel will feature a conversational format, allowing each panelist to share personal experiences and insights from their daily lives. There will also be time for questions at the end of the discussion.

  • Melissa Lehmann, Polymers Solids Handling Principal at ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Co.
    With 17 years at ExxonMobil, Lehmann has held various positions within the Polymers Process Technology and Manufacturing organizations. In her current role, she advises on new plant design, leads the deployment of new technology, supports plants with material handling issues, and mentors new engineers. She holds dual BS degrees in Chemical Engineering and Textile Engineering from NC State University.

  • Diane Cave, P.Eng, Regional Manager of Eastern Canada, Element6 Solutions
    A registered professional engineer in Nova Scotia and Ontario, Cave is the engineering manager at EPM Consulting in Halifax. She has extensive experience in dust collection, combustible dust protection, NFPA compliance, and material handling systems across various industries, including pulp and paper, metals, animal food processing, and more.

  • Carrie Hartford, Director of Business Development, Jenike & Johanson
    Hartford has been with Jenike & Johanson since 2007, specializing in designing bins, silos, feeders, and transfer chutes to address complex material handling challenges. She also teaches courses, writes papers, and presents globally on bulk solids handling and storage. She holds a Mechanical Engineering degree, an MBA, and a California Professional Engineers license.

  • Karla Sperati, Technology Fellow, DOW Logistics Technology Center, Dow Inc.
    With 27 years in the industry, Sperati has held multiple roles in Manufacturing and Engineering within Dow's Plastics Business, where she led the design of finishing areas for 12 polyethylene manufacturing plants. Currently, she is responsible for technology development and implementation for efficient packaging, bulk handling, and logistics of bulk solids at Dow facilities worldwide. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Argentina and holds an MBA from Northwood University.

The Powder and Bulk Solids Texas Conference will be held at the Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria. This new conference features daily hands-on workshops, expert-led seminars, an equipment exhibit, lunch-and-learn sessions, and networking events. Attendees can enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs) through sessions led by industry experts.
