Belgium-based lime, dolime, and minerals firm Lhoist Group recently obtained a permit approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to build a new vertical lime kiln at an existing dolomatic quicklime facility in Marble Falls, TX.
Plans for the addition of the new asset at the Lhoist North America site stem from increased demand for high-purity dolomitic lime products in the steel industry, the company said in a release announcing the plan
“This project at Marble Falls aligns with our company’s commitment to environmentally sustainable growth,” Lhoist North America Chief Executive Officer and President Ron Thompson said in a statement.
While the novel coronavirus pandemic has hindered many capital projects in the US, the company said it is moving forward with the expansion while also implementing additional safety protocols for its workers.
“Despite the current COVID-19 impacts on the economy, Lhoist is investing to create jobs and meet critical supply chain demands, like steel production, which support future infrastructure growth in North America,” said Valentine Berghmans, vice president, Texas Region, for Lhoist North America, in the release.
The new lime kiln is slated to become operational in 2021.
