Two people were killed and 17 others injured after an explosion caused a huge fire at the Jindal Poly Filmsa chemical plant in Maharashtra’s Nashik district in India Sunday.

According to officals, a boiler explosion was the cause of the incident.

“The fire in Jindal company was huge," said Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, who was at the site. "The reason behind it is not known yet. A high-level inquiry into the incident will be conducted. Nineteen employees were injured in the incident and two of them lost their lives."

A rescue operation took place between fire and police personnel, as well as State Disaster Response Force teams.

Reports said 17 of the 19 people rescued were sent to a hospital.

A high-level investigation was underway.
