Silo Explosion Reported at Mississippi Milling Plant

A silo exploded Thursday morning at the M&M Milling toll processing facility in Brookhaven, MS, drawing a response from several area emergency response agencies, the Brookhaven Police Department said in a statement posted to Facebook.

The blast occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in a silo that contained a fine powder, Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Clifford Galey told NBC News affiliate WLBT. Workers evacuated the facility during the incident, according to the official, and no injuries have been logged. 

Brookhaven Police deployed a drone at the scene to determine if firefighters could gain access to the impacted area safely. The drone’s FLIR camera was used to identify hot spots in the silo. 

No further details were available on the type of powder involved in the explosion. Brookhaven Police and the state’s Department of Environmental Quality 

M&M Milling’s Brookhaven facility primarily produces products for the animal feed industry and has milling, blending, packaging and transloading capabilities, according to information on the firm’s website. The toll processing company is based in Texarkana, AR.
