A silage fire at the Elcan Forage bale processing plant near Outlook, SK on Friday ignited over 1000 hay bales and destroyed two buildings at the facility, causing an estimated CN$100,000 in damages, several Canadian news organizations reported.

Outlook Fire Chief Dallas King told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that the blaze began when a silage pile caught on fire, spreading as strong winds spread to a stack of hay bales. The fire burned from about 4:40 p.m. Friday to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

A building containing machinery and an electrical outbuilding were destroyed during the incident, with no injuries reported.

Chief King said in a CBC News article that some smoldering would likely continue at the site.

“It’s probably going to [smolder] in some spots for a couple days,” Chief King said.
