Fire officials said an extruder explosion and fire at the Röchling Engineering Plastics facility in Orangeville, ON in late December caused an estimated CAD$750,000 (about $594,000) in damage, the Orangeville Banner reported.

About 20 firefighters were called to the plastics plant after the blast occurred on December 30, earlier coverage by the Banner. One worker was hurt and transported to an area hospital.

A spokesperson from the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) told the newspaper than an investigation into the incident is ongoing

Röchling Engineering Plastics manufactures UHMW-PE, HDPE, PP, nylon, Acetal and other materials.
