A dust collector fire at a Brainerd, MN industrial plant last Friday morning prompted the evacuation of workers at the site while some 20 firefighters worked to put down the flames, the Brainerd Dispatch reported.
Firefighters responded to the Keystone Automotive facility at about 9:45 a.m., finding the fire was contained to a dust collection system. About 12 employees working at the plant at the time of the incident safety evacuated the facility with no injuries reported, the newspaper said.
Because Keystone recently upgraded its dust collection system, the equipment was able to contain the fire to the unit and shut down, Brainerd Fire Department Chief Tim Holmes told the Dispatch. The fire official said the firm’s improvements likely prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the plant.
A subsidiary of LKQ Corporation, Keystone Automotive Industries restores and remanufactures automotive bumpers, according to the firm’s website. The company has operated for more than five decades.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) records indicate that Keystone’s Brainerd plant was fined $700 for a violation in 2015.
