A major fire ignited early Monday at the Carolina Poly polyethylene manufacturing plant in Chester, SC, drawing a response from a number of local emergency agencies.

Officials told WBTV that trailers in a plastic storage area outside of the plant caught on fire.

“Multiple rural fire departments are on scene of a major fire located behind the plant. An ALL CALL for manpower assistance county wide was made. Citizens are urged to stay away from the area and let firefighters do their job,” a post on the Facebook page for Chester County said.

No injuries or evacuations had been reported as of 9 am, coverage by WSOC said.

The 500,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility produces several types of polyethylene products like trash bags and construction films, according to information on the firm’s website. Carolina Poly is a subsidiary of Poly-America L.P.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A massive fire broke out last week at a Poly-America plastics plant in Grand Prairie, TX, causing a massive plume of smoke that was visible throughout the area. A railcar at the facility reportedly exploded during the incident.
