A fire caused by a dust explosion in a hopper at the Federal-Mogul Powertrain factory in Blacksburg, VA on Tuesday morning caused an estimated $2500 in damages and forced the plant to shut down while 124 employees were evacuated, multiple news organizations reported.

Firefighters responded to an alarm at 3:29 a.m. Tuesday morning, discovering a fire in a hopper that collects metal shavings that led to a dust explosion, reported the Roanoke [VA] Times, citing a press release from the Blacksburg Fire Department.

Investigators told news organizations that the cause of the incident was “a glob of hot metal” that was pulled into the hopper. No injuries were reported in the incident, the paper said, but the factory was shut down and 124 workers were evacuated.

An estimated $2500 in damages resulted from the fire and the explosion, several news sources said. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze using portable fire extinguishers, reported the Martinsville Bulletin.
