Fire Interrupts Production at Hostess Plant in Kansas

A fire started in a donut fryer at the Hostess Brands production facility in Emporia, KS last Saturday morning that briefly interrupted production at the site and left one firefighter with injuries, local news organizations reported. 

Crews responded to the facility at about 7:40 a.m. after observing thick smoke coming from the plant and receiving a report of a fire, coverage by the Emporia Gazettesaid. Officials told the newspaper that firefighters managed to put down the fire 10 a.m. 

Workers evacuated the facility safely during the incident. A firefighter received minor burns during the response and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. 

A Hostess spokesperson told news radio station KVOE that the area containing the donut fryer was slightly damaged and production of the baked goods was paused. Other areas of the plant were reportedly not impacted. 

The Emporia plant produces Twinkies, donuts, and other Hostess products.
