Fire crews responded to an explosion at South Fork Dairy southeast of Dimmit, TX, on Monday night, April 10.

One person was hospitalized after the explosion.

Local TV news ABC 7 reports that the explosion happened around 7:20 p.m.  according to Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera.

The massive fire engulfed the building, according to local officials.

Several people were injured in the explosion and fire, including a woman who was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Several others were treated at the scene.

According to Mayor Roger Malone, the explosion was heard several miles away, and smoke could be seen more than 30 miles away.

When ABC 7 spoke to Rivera at 10:30 p.m., he said the fire was under control.

Crews were mopping up hot spots.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Texas Department of Emergency Management are investigating what caused the explosion, and Rivera said they hope to release a cause on Tuesday.
