Fire Damages Sunflower Processing Plant in North Dakota

A fire Monday morning at the CHS Sunflower processing plant in Fargo, ND forced employees at the site to evacuate and caused minor damages, several local news organizations reported. 

Called to the scene at about 7:30 a.m., firefighters discovered flames in an oil fryer in the plant, according to coverage by ABC News affiliate WDAY. Officials told the news broadcaster that sprinklers at the site put out most of the fire before crews reported at the scene. 

No injuries were logged during the incident, the local fire department said in a report by television news station Valley News Live. Reports said the blaze caused minor smoke damage to the structure. Workers were able to return to work later on Monday. 

CHS Sunflower, a division of agricultural cooperative CHS Inc., supplies sunflower seeds to confectionery makers, small grain ingredients used by snack and food manufacturing firms, and bird food products, information on the firm’s website said.
