Workers evacuated a Nestle UK chocolate plant in Halifax, West Yorkshire on Sunday morning after a blaze ignited inside of the facility, according to coverage by local news organizations. The blaze reportedly started in a production area.
Fire crews were called to the Bailey Hall Road facility at about 5 a.m. Units from several other area fire departments also responded to the scene.
“The fire was reported in one of the factories, everyone was safely evacuated, and no-one was hurt. Our thanks to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who attended,” Nestle said in a statement to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner. “We will now investigate internally to establish the cause of the fire.”
Machinery on the plant’s second floor caught on fire during the incident, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
Work at the plant was temporarily paused to enable the company to conduct an investigation into to the fire, said an account by the Halifax Courier. The company planned to restart operations later on Sunday.
