A blaze in a Massachusetts cocoa powder production plant’s compressor room on March 25 caused about $300,000 in damages and halted operations at the facility for nearly a week.

Fire crews from three area fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire at the Brady Enterprises plant in Weymouth, MA at about 5:30 p.m., bringing down the flames within two hours, The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, MA reported. Company officials said in the Patriot Ledger report that the facility would remain closed for a week-long period.

Fire Chief Keith Stark told the newspaper that compressor equipment ignited for an unknown reason and dust from cocoa powder manufacturing likely acted as fuel for the fire. A maintenance worker in the facility at the time of the fire was unharmed, the Patriot Ledger said, but a firefighter received minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

Weymouth Deputy Fire Chief Steven Murray told The Boston Globe that the fire resulted in $300,000 in damages.

In October 2017 the same facility suffered a two-alarm fire that begain in an air duct system, causing no injuries, the Patriot Ledger reported at the time.

Brady Enterprises Inc., headquartered in Weymouth, is a co-manufacturer of a variety of powdered and dry-mix food products.
