Filtration System Fire at Industrial Coatings Plant

Crews responded to the Toefco Engineered Coatings Systems plant in Niles, MI on Tuesday after a fire started in a filtration system, officials told local news organizations. 

Called to the N. 14th Street site at about 9:15 a.m., firefighters discovered that flames spread from the machinery to insultation and the facility’s roof, Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb told the Niles Daily Star.

The fire is thought to have started in a filtration system inside the industrial spray coating plant, ABC News affiliate WBND reported. Workers evacuated the plant during the fire without incident. 

Niles Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, according to the Daily Star

Toefco supplies the automotive, agricultural, medical, food processing, compressor, heavy duty truck, military, aerospace, and defense industries with more than 400 types of coatings, information on the company’s website states.
