An explosion occurred at the Valley Milk Products plant in Strasburg, VA Friday morning, according to a release issued by the facility’s owner, Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative (MDVA).

“We are thankful for the swift action of local emergency responders and city building officials to ensure our employees are kept safe and minimize impact to the Strasburg community,” MDVA Chief Executive Officer Jay Bryant said. “While we are still assessing the impact of the explosion, we expect no disruptions to our milk supply.”

No workers were inside the plant at the time of the blast, and no injuries have been logged. MDVA acquired the facility in 1999. The location manufactures condensed milks, butter, and cream.

A fire official told television news station WHSV that a boiler exploded in the facility, leading to an ammonia leak. Around 20 people near the plant were ordered to evacuate during the response.

Crews were able to contain the leak by 9:30 a.m., said an account by news broadcaster WDVM.
