A fire official called in a report of a fire at an aluminum castings facility in Pennsylvania after spotting smoking coming from the facility on Thursday, several local news organizations reported.
Harmony Fire Department Chief Scott Garing observed smoke coming from the Harmony Castings LLC facility in Harmony, PA. Chief Garing stopped at the plant to examine the situation and was told by staff that a dust collection system was ablaze, the Butler Dispatch reported.
“It was caused by one of the contractors that was working on the building that cut through a ventilation pipe that’s used for a vacuum into a central dust collection unit and a spark went into the dust collector and ignited the entire dust collector,” Chief Garing told ButlerRadio.com.
Workers unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the flames prior to the arrival of fire crews. Three fire departments responded to the industrial fire. A nearby roadway, Route 19, was briefly closed during the incident.
Media reports said that no injuries were reported during the incident.
