Fire crews were dispatched to the Sidney Sugars Inc. sugar beet processing facility in Sidney, MT on Friday after a fire ignited in a pulp dryer, the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department said in coverage by a local newspaper.

The blaze ignited in the equipment at about 2 p.m. and was doused by firefighters by about 3 p.m., the fire department told the Sidney Herald. Officials said overdried pulp may have contributed to the incident.

Erected in 1925, Sidney Sugars’ facility in Sidney is capable of producing 2.4 million cwt/yr of sugar, according to information on the firm’s website.

American Crystal Sugar Company acquired Sidney Sugars in 2003 as part of its acquisition of several production facilities from Imperial Sugar Company. Products made by Sidney Sugars are marketed across the United States.
