Firefighters were called to the Marcal paper mill in Elmwood Park, NJ Wednesday night after a crane contacted an extension cord on the facility’s roof, sparking flames in nearby bowl of paper dust, local news organizations reported.
The two-alarm fire started around 7:30 p.m. Officials told the Saddle Brook-Elmwood Park Daily Voice that fire crews were able to put out the dust bowl fire on top of the paper product facility’s Building 10 in about an hour. Personnel from several other area fire departments also responded to the scene.
No injuries were logged during the incident. A report by the New Jersey Record noted that a fire broke out at the plant in February 2017.
