Conveyor Fire at ArcelorMittal Steel Plant

Firefighters responded to the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Krakow, Poland this Thursday after a fire ignited in a conveying system, international news organizations reported. 

“The conveyor transporting coke to the blast furnace caught fire,” a company spokesperson told Reuters. “We are preparing the blast furnace for an outage for security reasons that would last for two-three days.”

ArcelorMittal said it plans to inspect the facility to ensure that it is safe. No estimates on damages were available. A cause of the blaze has not yet been established. 

The Krakow facility has a capacity of 1.5 million tn/yr of steel, according to coverage by BNE IntelliNews.
