An explosion and fire at a chemical plant in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Friday left four people dead and three severely injured.

The explosion occurred at about 11 p.m. Friday at the plant, located in Bayan Obo industrial park. The fire was extinguished early Saturday.

Local authorities requested that production at the chemical plant be halted until further notice. An investigation was underway.
