Two people were injured after an explosion at an industrial plant yesterday in Stevensville, MD.
PharmaCann, a cannabis extraction company experienced an unknown event causing an explosion, the Maryland State Fire Marshal told Local 11 News.
A firefighter with the Queen Anne's County Fire Department said a worker was in a paint booth when the explosion occurred. The two people injured have upper body burns, which are consistent with an explosion, officials said. PharmaCann was performing cannabis extraction with propane and butane when the accident occurred.
"... One injury is severe but not life-threatening," Master Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire said. "The emergency alarm and ventilation systems operated as intended, minimizing injuries."
The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal said investigators are continuing to look into the cause of an explosion that occurred at PharmaCann. The vertically integrated cannabis company has been operating at the Stevensville plant for four years, specializing in cannabis extraction processes.
PharmaCann also has plants in Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
