Worker Injured by Conveyor at Food Processing Plant

Emergency personnel responded to the Balcom & Moe Inc. processing plant in Pasco, WA on Tuesday afternoon after a worker became trapped in a piece of conveying equipment in the facility, several local news organizations reported.

Firefighters were called to the plant at about 1 p.m., according to coverage by NBC News affiliate KDNO. The lower portion of the man’s body became trapped in the conveyor belt while he was unloading potatoes. 

Pasco Fire Deputy Chief Ed Dunbar told that the worker had “significant” injuries and was transported to an area hospital. 

Balcom & Moe’s facility in Pasco can handle 40 tons/hr of raw product and produces about 28 shipped loads of product each day, according to information on the company’s website.
