A machine-related accident claimed the life of a 48-year-old worker Friday afternoon at the JBS beef plant in Grand Island, NE, local news organizations reported.

48-year-old Esteban Mantilla was fatally injured after a machine reportedly struck the worker’s head, Grand Island Police told ABC News affiliate Nebraska.tv. Officials said the death has been classified as an “industrial accident.”

Emergency personnel responded to the incident around 3:30 p.m. and transported the man to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to coverage by The Grand Island Independent.

“On Friday, a tragic accident occurred at our Grand Island production facility resulting in the death of one of our team members. We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts and prayers are with our team member’s family, co-workers, and friends,” JBS spokesperson Nikki Richardson said in a statement to Nebraska.tv. “We are working closely with local officials and OSHA to investigate the incident, and we are grateful to the emergency personnel for their quick response.”
