A variety of equipment is needed to process sugarcane into the white granulated sugar found in pantries around the world. Discovery UK takes us inside of a sugar mill to see the entire sugar production process – from harvesting sugarcane in the field to bagging the end product.

Inside the plant, viewers can see conveyors, crushers, milling equipment, large mixing tanks, evaporators, centrifuges, bagging solutions, dryers and more. Discovery UK also shows how the sugar mill tests sugarcane juice before processing it into crystals. Powder and bulk solids industry professionals should take note of the milling tandem, where the sugarcane passes through five or more mills.

Viewers may be surprised how many steps it takes to get from sugarcane to crystals. It is clear that it takes a number of processes and a range of equipment to produce this popular product.
