Ontario announced its intention to provide funding totaling CN$1.5 million to Canadian firm Vantage Foods as the company kicks off a CN$18 million (about $14 million USD) expansion project to install a new seafood line and boost red meat production at its Belleville, ON plant, a press release from the provincial government said Thursday.
45,000 sq feet will be added to the Belleville site’s existing 50,000-sq-ft footprint, Alan Cook, general manager of Vantage’s seafood division told the Belleville Intelligencer.
“The move into seafood is new for Vantage,” Cook said in the newspaper’s report. “The growth we will see will bring 70 new jobs on top of what we already have here. By March next year, hopefully, we will be able to supply seafood out of here.”
CN$9 million of the total investment will go toward new equipment for the plant’s red meat section, according to Cook.
Vantage Foods produces case-ready meat products for grocery stores in several Canadian provinces. The project is slated for completion in the end of 2019.
