Potato chip maker Utz Quality Foods LLC completed its purchase of snack products manufacturer Kitchen Cooked Inc. on December 31, expanding its portfolio of salty snacks, the company announced in a release.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to add this important snack food brand and set of capabilities to our portfolio,” Utz Chief Executive Officer Dylan Lissette said in a statement. “Since the 1930s, Kitchen Cooked brings a strong consumer following and unique craft heritage in its core markets. Their distribution and manufacturing capabilities, along with their customer relationships, enhance our ability to grow our Utz brand.”

The deal includes the Kitchen Cooked brand – including products like potato chips, pretzels, and popcorn – direct store delivery (DSD) operations, and manufacturing assets. Based in Farmington, IL, the company operates two production facilities in the Midwest.

“We are excited to partner with Utz and believe that this is a great way for the two organizations to come together to create an even stronger manufacturing and distribution network throughout Illinois and Eastern Iowa,” said Kitchen Cooked Vice President Paul Blackhurst in the release. “Utz and Kitchen Cooked have almost a century each of experience in bringing great tasting snacks to our communities, and we believe this transaction only strengthens our ability to do so going forward.”

In September 2019, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that Utz entered into a definitive agreement to purchase the DSD snacks business from Conagra Brands, including brands like Snyder of Berlin, Husman’s, and Tim’s Cascade Snacks.
