The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled just two products in September and issued zero public health alerts.

The month was relatively flat MoM. There were 8 recalls one year earlier, in March 2023.

Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens

  • Pork Dynasty Inc., Houston, TX, recalled 469 lb of ready-to-eat Fried Pork Skin products due to the products containing soy, which is not on the label. Products affected are: 3.5-oz. plastic bags containing “Texarones Born in The Philippines– Made in Texas Fried Out Pork Fat with Attached Skin Spicy”; and 2.5-oz. plastic bags containing “Texarones Born in The Philippines– Made in Texas Fried Pork Skin Spicy.”

  • Dearborn Sausage Co., Dearborn, MI, recalled about 1,944 lb of ready-to-eat wiener products due to incorrect labeling. Products labeled beef wieners were labeled beef and pork wieners and vice versa. The beef and pork products actually contain soy, and soy was not listed on the mislabeled products. Also, the product labeled as beef wieners actually contains beef and pork, therefore, pork is not declared on the finished product label. Products include: 2-lb. vacuum-sealed packages of “Brookside Brand Fully Cooked Natural Casing Beef Wieners” that may contain undeclared pork with lot code A0122024 and sell by date 11/05/2024; and 2-lb. vacuum-sealed packages of “Brookside Brand Natural Casing Fully Cooked Wieners” that may contain undeclared soy with lot code A0322024 and sell by date 11/05/2024.

Neither of these recalls have caused illness, the FDA reports.

For consumers with the above products in their homes, discard and contact the company or FDA for a refund. For distributors and retailers, please contact the company for instructions.
