Meat, egg, and poultry recalls for the month

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled two products, expanded one recall, and issued two public health alerts in October. This is higher than September, with two recalls but zero health alerts.

Misbranding/Undeclared Allergen

  • Pork Dynasty Inc. has expanded its September recall of ready-to-eat Fried Pork Skin products due to shipment not listed previously at Oklahoma retailers. The recall covers 469 lb of ready-to-eat Fried Pork Skin products due to the products containing soy, which is not on the label. Products affected are: 3.5-oz. plastic bags containing “Texarones Born in The Philippines – Made in Texas Fried Out Pork Fat with Attached Skin Spicy”; and 2.5-oz. plastic bags containing “Texarones Born in The Philippines– Made in Texas Fried Pork Skin Spicy.”

  • A public health alert was issued for Haverhill, MA-based Hans Kissle Co. chicken salad products labeled Cranberry Chicken Salad. The product labeled Cranberry Chicken Salad may contain Classic Chicken Salad, which contains wheat, a known allergen that is not declared on the product label. The product is in a 12-oz. clear plastic package containing “Cranberry Chicken Salad with white meat chicken” with a use-by date of 10/25/24. The salads were distributed to retail locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and New York.

Without the Benefit of Inspection & Undeclared Allergens

  • A Tu Gusto LLC, located in Lehigh Acres, FLA, has recalled approximately 7,630 pounds of frozen meat and poultry croquette products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection and may contain soy, sesame seed and wheat, known allergens not declared on the product label. The frozen meat and poultry items were produced between April and October 2024 and have a shelf life of 6 months. These products are subject to recall regardless of expiration date: 32-oz. box containing “A Tu Gusto Paladar Pollo (Chicken) Croquetas (Croquettes),” 32-oz. box containing “A Tu Gusto Paladar Chorizo (Sausage) Croquetas,” 32-oz. box containing “A Tu Gusto Paladar Pescado (Fish) Croquetas,” and 32-oz. box containing “A Tu Gusto Paladar Jamon (Ham) Croquetas.” These items were shipped to a distributor, retail stores and restaurants in Florida and Texas.

Illegally Imported Products

  • A public health alert was issued for various meat and poultry products that were illegally imported from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The products are: 180-g. cans containing “Best Beef Curry,” 425-g. cans containing “Best Chicken Biryani,” 360-g. cans containing “Hti Mi Gwik Dry MoHinGa Paste,” 425-g. cans containing “Best Myanmar Duck Blood,” 400-g. cans containing “Eain Chak MoHinGa Paste,” 160-g. vacuum sealed clear packages containing “Min Thar Gyi Dried Fish,” and 400-g. cans containing “Eain Chak Coconut Soup Paste.” These items were shipped to retail locations in Arizona, California, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

For 2024 to date, February and July had the most recalls and health alerts.
