Meat, egg, and poultry recalls for the month

The US Department of Agriculture recalled 5 products and issued 1 public health alert in July. The overall number is comparable to June, which had 3 recalls and 3 health alerts.

Of the 5 recalls, 3 were due to possible Listeria contamination, 1 without benefit of inspection, and 1 was due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.  The public health alert was due to 1 product being imported illegally.

Possible Listeria Contamination

  • The major recall of Boar’s Head and Old Country deli meat and packaged meat due to the potential for Listeria monocytogenes is still in investigative stages. A recall for Boar’s Head liverwurst on July 26 expanded on July 30 to include 71 products under Boar’s Head and Old Country brands, for products including ham, bacon, bologna, smoked sausage, beef and pork hotdogs, and more.   • Al-Safa US importer of record in Mississauga, Ontario, Can., has recalled approximately 2,010 lb of imported frozen ready-to-eat chicken products. Affected products include: 12.1-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on sticker outside of package; 14.11-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on sticker outside of the package.

Misbranding / Undeclared Allergens

  • Taylor's Sausage, Inc., a Cave Junction, Ore., establishment, is recalling approximately 74 pounds of ready-to-eat Landjaeger sausage products due to the inclusion of soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

Without Benefit of Inspection

  • AW Farms of Argillite, KY, has recalled approximately 6,900 pounds of hot dog products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. The ready-to-eat hot dogs were produced on various dates since approximately May 30, 2024, and have a shelf-life of 45 days. Products include: 10-lb. boxes containing two 5-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing “French City Foods 6” 12-1 hotdogs” and “packed on” with various dates since approximately May 30, 2024, on the label; 10-lb. boxes containing two 5-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing frozen “Pork, Beef, Dextrose, Salt, Sugar maple GEO Brown all meat hot dogs and “packed on” with various dates since approximately May 30, 2024, on the label; 10-lb. boxes containing two 5-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing frozen “GEO brown all beef hot dogs” and “packed on” with various dates since approximately May 30, 2024, represented on the label.

Illegal Import

  • A health alert was issued for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that were illegally imported from the Philippines. The Philippines is a country not eligible to export meat and poultry products to the US. Products include: 150-g. can of "Argentina Brand Corned Beef."175-g. can of "Argentina Brand Corned Beef 260-g. can of "Argentina Brand Corned Beef "; 150-g. can of "PureFoods Corned Beef; "210-g. can of "Purefoods Corned Beef"; 150-g. can of "Chunkee Corned Beef"; 190-g. can of " Chunkee Corned Beef"; 7.43-oz. jar of "Lady's Choice Chicken Spread."
