Tyson Foods is cutting about 500 jobs across the company, mostly in its corporate offices in Springdale, AR and Chicago.
The job cuts are part of the company's overall focus on financial fitness.
"We have an ongoing focus on financial fitness to make sure our business remains competitive," said Gary Mickelson, corporate spokesman for Tyson. "This means we’re continually reviewing our resources including staffing levels. We’ve recently reduced some roles and relocated others. It’s always difficult to eliminate and move jobs, and we’re doing this only after careful consideration.”
Tyson employs about 12,000 people worldwide.
