Tyson Foods will close 2 Philadelphia, PA plants, and lay off more than 200 workers, local news sources reported.

This is the second announcement of closures this week, earlier announcing the company's closure of its Emporia, KS plant, in which more than 800 employees will lose their jobs.

A notice posted by the state's Department of Labor & Industry states the two plants located in north Philadelphia, which employ a total of 229 people, will be shuttered by Jan. 31, 2025.

The notice also revealed the two plants are the Original Philly Cooked Plant and the  Original Philly Raw Plant. The Cooked Plant has 110 employees who will lose jobs and the Raw Plant has 119.

Tyson Foods' Original Philly facilities processed meats for cheesesteak products.

The same reason was stated as for its KS plant closure: to increase efficiencies of operations.

In a statement to NBC, a Tyson Foods spokesperson said the company is working with state and local officials to provide additional resources to impacted workers.
