Tyson Foods subsidiary Tyson Local Grain Services has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase three grain elevators in Tennessee from The Andersons business Grain Group.

The acquisition of the elevators in Humboldt, Kenton, and Dyer comes as the Springdale, AR-based food company prepares to build a new chicken plant in Humboldt, TN.

“This project will help secure vital inputs for us and position us to grow and support our customers,” Tyson Foods group president of poultry Doug Ramsey said in a statement. “We look forward to creating more direct relationships with the grain producers in the area.”

Tyson Local Grain Services is a program launched by the company to foster connections between Tyson and local farmers who can provide grain for feed.

About 20 workers from The Andersons will join Tyson when the transaction closes. Completion of the deal is expected this March.
