American protein and prepared foods firm Tyson is moving forward on plans to build a new $355 million bacon manufacturing plant in Bowling Green, TN to support the Jimmy Dean and Wright Brand product lines, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in a recent release. The company said the project is its largest investment in a facility to date.

A 400,000-sq-ft building will be constructed in the Kentucky Transpark. Company officials said in a separate release that an uptick in retail and foodservice demand drove its decision to invest in the location.

“We are excited to be a part of the Warren County and Kentucky communities that will help us continue to provide the iconic Wright Brand and Jimmy Dean products our consumers and customers desire,” Noelle O’Mara, group president, Prepared Foods for Tyson, said in a statement. “As people actively look to add more protein to their diets, Tyson is uniquely positioned as a category leader to meet that growing demand.”

The facility is expected to be staffed by 450 workers when it becomes operational. Production is expected to commence at the new plant in late 2023.

Tyson has made several large investments in facilities in recent months. Last month, the protein company started work on a new 325,000-sq-ft chicken plant in Virginia and a $61 million expansion project at its Vicksburg, MS poultry facility.
