The additional space will allow the company to pursue new business opportunities within the pet food industry.

Animal feed and pet food ingredients and additives supplier Trouw Nutrition started work on a $12 million expansion of its Blending Innovation Center campus in Highland, IL on May 5, the firm announced in a recent release.

A 8,100-sq-ft pilot plant will be upgraded into a new 32,052-sq-ft facility to enable Trouw Nutrition to pursue new business opportunities in the pet food industry.

“This new facility reflects Trouw’s continued investment in our US Companion Animal Division and the broader pet food industry,” Dan Baker, managing director of the firm’s US operations, said in a statement. “The addition will enable us to grow and expand our unique ingredient offerings for our customers to further support pet health and welfare for years to come.”

The company plans to add capabilities that will improve its ability to meet customer specifications.

“Our team worked for over a year to investigate new ideas, complete a comprehensive design review, and have every member of our group provide input on how we will operate,” said Andy Fischer, director of operations, US Companion Animal Division for Trouw Nutrition, in the release. “The design will enable us to meet unique customer needs and be a supplier of choice.”

Trouw Nutrition’s campus in Highland has a premix plant, warehouse, and two office buildings, according to The Korte Company, a design and construction firm that was contracted for the project.

Construction on the site is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Before it goes operational, Trouw Nutrition intends to carry out validation trials at the site to make sure it meets the standards of its pet food operations.
