TreeHouse Foods Moves to Shutter California Snack Plant
February 16, 2018
Packaged foods and beverages manufacturer TreeHouse Foods will close its Visalia, CA snack production plant by the first quarter of 2019, impacting 294 workers at the facility, the Oak Brook, IL-based firm announced in a press release Thursday.
The company said its plan to close the plant and move production of pretzels and cereal snack mixes to other TreeHouse facilities is part of the TreeHouse 2020 restructuring program that aims to reduce the firm’s cost structure and further integration of its businesses.
“As we realign the company to meet the demands of today’s evolving food and beverage landscape, we must narrow our strategic focus to those categories and customers that value organic growth, market segmentation, product differentiation, service capability, and economies of sale,” TreeHouse Foods Chief Executive Officer and President Sam K. Reed said in a release detailing the firm’s fourth quarter 2017 results also issued Thursday.
The company said it will incur costs of $21 million to close the plant.
Thursday’s announcement comes after TreeHouse made an announcement on Jan. 31, 2018, stating its intention to close its cereal manufacturing facility in Battle Creek, MI. Overall, the company plans to permanently close 15 production lines this year.
