Food company Sovos Brands entered into an agreement to purchase Birch Benders LLC, a maker of better-for-you breakfast and snacking produces like waffle and pancake mixes and toaster waffles, a company release announced Wednesday.

“With its absolutely delicious products that deliver against healthy consumer lifestyles such as paleo and keto diets, Birch Benders is the perfect next addition to our growing portfolio of one-of-a-kind brands,” Sovos CEO and President Todd Lachman said in a statement. “Birch Benders shares Sovos’ commitment to making simple and delicious foods that use only the highest quality ingredients.”

Sovos said the transaction expands its portfolio to include seven total large food categopries, including sauces, yogurt, frozen entrees, pancake and waffle mixes, frozen waffles, soups, and dry pasta. The company currently owns the Rao’s pasta sauces, soups, frozen entrees, and dry pasta, noosa yogurt, and Michael Angelo’s frozen entrees.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be joining the Sovos family,” said Matt LaCasse, the founder and CEO of Birch Benders, in the release. “We believe the wealth of experience and resources of the team at Sovos will allow us to reach even more consumers with our delicious, innovative, easy-to-make offerings made with nutrient-rich, quality ingredients.”

Birch Benders was established in 2011 by LaCasse and Lizzi Ackerman. It currently offers organic, plant-based, non-GMO, protein-rich, paleo, and keto alternatives to breakfast and snack foods.   

The company’s release did not offer details on the financial terms of the transaction.
