Canada-based Indian food firm Surati will open its first US manufacturing location in Springfield, OH.

Indian snacks manufacturer and distributor Surati Sweet Mart is preparing to expand into the United States with a $16 million investment in a new production and distribution facility in Springfield, OH, economic development organization JobsOhio announced Monday. The project is expected to create 108 new jobs.

“Our location in Springfield is our first manufacturing investment in the United States and will allow to serve our North American growth. The Springfield community is the perfect strategic location for us to locate and expand our operations,” said Shalini Sheth, director of operations for Surati, in a release. “It’s simply a community that wanted our investment and worked with our leadership to make it happen.”

The Toronto-based firm selected the Ohio site because of its central position in the US market and due to a need for a larger manufacturing facility.

Surati currently operates distribution centers in the US in New Jersey, California, Texas, and Georgia, information on its website states. It employs some 200 employees across its global footprint.
