Poultry producer Simmons Prepared Foods Inc. plans to build a new, $300 million chicken plant in Benton County, AR, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission announced via press release Wednesday.

Siloam Springs, AR-based Simmons said the project will create some 2300 jobs by 2022 and serve as a catalyst for new contracts with area farmers. Featuring a planned capacity of 850 million lb/yr, the facility will produce frozen and fresh chicken products for retail and restaurant end users.

“We’re thrilled to bring this project to our community and are grateful for the cooperation from the Cities of Decatur and Gentry, local officials, Arkansas Economic Development Commission, and the State of Arkansas,” said Todd Simmons, the chief executive officer of Simmons Foods, the parent company of Simmons Prepared Foods, in a statement. “This project positions us to continue meeting our customers’ needs.”

New production facilities and modern office space will be built at the site, and the company plans to install environmental technologies.

Simmons said it expects the plant to be operational by 2019.
