Canadian firm Richardson Pioneer Limited announced plans Monday to construct a new high throughput grain elevator in Carmichael, SK. The company said in a release that work on the facility commenced in June and is slated to reach completion by next fall.

The agribusiness’ project includes 46,000 mt of storage capacity with a loop rail track that can load 175 high cube rail cars, as well as high-speed receiving and load out and a high capacity grain cleaning system.

“Richardson has maintained a significant presence and loyal customer base in the southwestern part of the province and will continue to seek opportunities for improving operational efficiencies,” Tom Hamilton, senior vice president of Agribusiness Operations for the company, said in a release. “With the addition of the new facility at Carmichael, we look to bridge our historical presence in the area with the realities of meeting our grower customers’ evolving business needs.”

Once the elevator is built, Richardson will start construction of crop inputs assets, including a new high-speed fertilizer blender with storage and a 10,000-sq-ft AWSA certified warehouse. Work on these assets is expected to finish in the fall of 2023.

Richardson Pioneer's parent company, Richardson International, revealed plans in April for a “full overhaul” at its oat mill in Bedford, England that will lift the site’s capacity by some 35%, increase the mill’s efficiency, and modernize its operations.
