Packaged meat products manufacturer Plumrose USA is planning to construct a new $200 million Italian meats and charcuterie plant, the JBS USA subsidiary announced in a recent release. While no details were offered on the location of the facility, the company said it will be situated near sources of raw materials.

“Plumrose USA is uniquely positioned to meet growing consumer demand for great-tasting, high-quality Italian meats, like salami and prosciutto,” Thomas Lopez, president of Plumrose USA, said in a statement. “This project reinforces our strategic commitment to grow our business and be a stronger partner for our customers, provide increased opportunities for our team members, and realize the full potential of protein.”

The company currently produces premium bacon and a range of deli products at six production facilities in the US.

JBS USA purchased Plumrose in 2017 from Danish Crown A/S for $230 million. The acquisition was part of JBS’ strategy to expand its presence in prepared foods and branded products.

This month, Saint Louis-based Italian charcuterie manufacturer Volpi Foods started work on a new 87,000-sq-ft meat slicing and packaging plant next to its existing prosciutto processing facility in Union, MO. Company officials said the new facility will help to facilitate future growth.
