Turkey and pork producer Prestage Farms is preparing to construct a new $150 million poultry processing facility in Camden, SC, according to a recent release issued by the South Carolina Dept. of Commerce.

“We are proud and excited to announce the expansion of our operations here in South Carolina where we have been doing business since 1994,” the protein firm’s president, Dr. Ron Prestage, said in a statement. “We are grateful for the strong state and local support we’ve received for this project, and we look forward to success with all of our partners for many years to come.”

The Kershaw County location will include state-of-the-art technology and solutions that boost the sanitation and shelf life of goods. Prestage Farms said the facility will feature “high levels” of automation.

Construction on the new plant is slated to reach completion by the end of next year. 292 jobs will be created through the project, with hiring expected to commence in Q4 2022.

To support the project, the state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits.
