Poultry processor Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation recently revealed plans to build a new $70 million production plant near Carnesville, GA that will process chicken byproducts into pet food ingredients, several local news organizations reported.

“Pilgrim’s is pleased to announce this significant investment in Franklin County, which will grow our company’s already substantial footprint in Georgia,” Mark Glover, the head of the firm’s protein conservation division, said in a release quoted by news ration station WLHR. “Following all necessary reviews and approvals from Franklin County and state officials, the plant build here will truly be state of the art, ensuring that jobs and positive economic development are created in a way that safeguards and promotes the sustainable use of natural resources.”

Some 90 permanent jobs will be created with the opening of the new facility, according to reports. The company estimates the plant will contribute about $65 million to the region’s economy each year.

The planned facility is slated to include odor elimination technology, an on-site water treatment plant, and feature a negative pressure design to contain smells, coverage by news broadcaster WDUN said. A receiving area in the facility will also be constructed to allow Pilgrim’s to offload materials inside the plant and clean the delivery vehicles before they leave the site.

Pilgrim’s will process the byproducts with drying and evaporation technology.

The value of the global market for pet food ingredients is expected to increase from $35.5 billion in 2019 to $68.7 billion by 2027, representing a CAGR of 8.6%, a recent forcast published by Research and Markets posits.
