Irish dairy cooperative Ornua is planning to invest $10 million to expand the capacity of its cheese ingredients production facility in Hilbert, WI by 30%, the company announced in a release Wednesday.

During the project, 22,000 ft of warehousing and cooling infrastructure will be added to the plant’s existing footprint. Operated by the Ornua Ingredients North America division, the facility manufactures customized, functional cheese ingredients for food manufacturing and foodservice customers in the US.

“The capacity and flexibility enabled by this latest investment will allow us to deliver the scale and breadth of product portfolio required to maintain our position as the leading partner in our customers’ ambitious growth plans,” said Rick Pedersen, president of Ornua Ingredients North America, in a statement.

Cheese ingredients manufactured by the division are used in variety of food applications, including meat, frozen meals, egg dishes, and pizza. The company said it supplied cheese for over 50 million pizzas in 2019.

“Ornua Ingredients North America have had great success in partnering with blue chip customers, delivering innovative cheese solutions, and as these customer grow their business, we are creating additional capacity to serve them,” Ornua Ingredients Managing Director Bernard Condon said in in the release.

Work on the Wisconsin site is expected to reach completion next February.
